Standards Australia recently announced that the 2018 edition of AS/NZS 3000:2018, Electrical Installations (known as the Wiring Rules) has been published in Australia and New Zealand.
The standard can be purchased via SAI Global’s website. Initially, only the PDF version was will be available with a hard copy of the standard available in August 2018.
A six month transition period will start on 1 July. The transition period will allow electrical contractors and workers to access the new edition of the standard and gain a clear understanding of the changes to electrical installation requirements. These changes will need to be adopted into businesses installation practices to ensure compliance with this new edition.
Following the six month transition period, the enforcement date for AS/NZS 3000: 2018 Wiring Rules will be 1 January 2019. Electrical installation work carried out after this date will need to comply with the new edition.
Standards Australia have released a press release on the publication of the new version of the standard which can be found by clicking here.
HIA is currently preparing a member information sheet outlining the major changes in the 2018 edition and how the transitional provisions will apply to a project.
Standards Australia have also advised that an unapproved and unpublished version of AS/NZS 3000:2018 is circulating on social media. Electricians are warned not to use the unauthorised document under any circumstances because it is not safe to do so.
