The difference between Internal & external secura flooring

Approx read time: 2 minutes

The difference between internal secura floor and external secura flooring is a common question we get asked. Here’s the main differences.

Scyon Secura External sheets are intended for use as structural flooring in external decks/verandahs and other external structural flooring applications.

  1. The load case for external decks and balconies are higher than internal floors as prescribed by the governing Australian Standard (AS 1170.2). Therefore the mesh provides extra reinforcement for the additional loads expected.
  2. The mesh also considerably increases the safety aspect of the external flooring product to help reduce the risks in the case of any failure in a deck or balcony.
  3. The Scyon External sheets have a UV coating on either faces of the sheet that the Internal sheets do not have. This UV coating ensures that the sheets are durable in an external application that is subjected to UV exposure.
  4. There is also a higher concentration of acrylic sealers on the external sheets than the internal sheets which increases the durability of the Secura sheets in a an external environment which is more aggressive than an internal application.
